In early 2023, Windows 11 users might receive a Tabs feature for the Notepad app, according to a report. Although the feature is currently in the early testing phase within the company, a Microsoft employee unintentionally shared an image of it on Twitter. Windows Central noticed the tweet before its removal. Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced tabs for File Explorer, and now Notepad is rumored to be the first built-in app to incorporate this functionality.
As per Windows Central’s report, a Microsoft employee posted a screenshot of an internal version of Notepad online, accompanied by a loudspeaker emoji. The image displayed a new tabs interface within the Notepad app, along with a confidential warning at the top instructing users not to discuss features or capture screenshots.
There are speculations that Microsoft’s tabs feature is currently undergoing internal testing and will be released soon. Microsoft had previously experimented with tabs across all Windows 10 apps, including Notepad and File Explorer, four years ago, but the feature was never released to Windows 10 users. Now, it seems that the feature could be extended to more Windows 11 apps.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has initiated testing of the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) on Windows 11, offering support for running Android 13 through a beta release. This development was officially announced through a GitHub discussion thread. The Windows Subsystem for Android 13 on Windows 11 is accessible to those who have enrolled in the Windows Subsystem for Android Preview Program. The latest WSA update for Android 13 support on Windows 11, carrying the version number 2211.40000.7.0, includes nine performance improvements and fixes and is expected to enhance boot speed by up to 50 percent.
