Tecno recently introduced its premium smartphones, the Tecno Phantom X2 series, at the ‘Beyond the Extraordinary’ event in Saudi Arabia and subsequently launched the standard Tecno Phantom X2 in India. According to reports, Tecno India CEO Arijeet Talapatra has revealed the company’s ambitious plans for expanding its product range in 2023. Tecno aims to establish its own ecosystem by introducing smartwatches and TWS earbuds in India, with several major product launches slated for the coming year.
In an interview with BGR India, Talapatra discussed Tecno’s vision for 2023. The Tecno Phantom X2 is scheduled for sale in India starting January 9, and looking forward, the company plans to bring a broader range of premium smartphones to the Indian market, surpassing even the Phantom X2 Pro.
Talapatra emphasized Tecno’s strategic focus on the impending 5G transition in India, stating, “By the end of 2023, India will be completely 5G. So, once India becomes 5G, we need to have a complete 5G portfolio.” Tecno intends to target the ultra-premium, premium, and mid-range segments in India, offering 5G smartphones in the Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 range. However, there are reportedly no immediate plans to launch a 5G smartphone below the Rs. 10,000 mark.
Anticipating a swift 5G adoption in India, Talapatra predicts that by mid-2023, consumers in the Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 20,000 range “will not buy a 4G phone.” In addition to smartphones, Tecno is actively working on creating its own ecosystem, including the development of smartwatches, with work already underway on these devices.
Regarding laptops, the Tecno India CEO indicated that the company is still deliberating on their launch in India. However, a Tecno laptop is expected to debut in the Indian market in the first half of 2023. Before a nationwide release, Tecno might initiate a pilot program with a B2C company or brand or potentially collaborate with specific states like Maharashtra or Delhi for an initial launch before expanding across India.
